Southmead Regeneration: Working for the Community

Southmead Regeneration Project aims to regenerate the centre of Southmead. Using information gathered from our extensive Community Plan, Southmead Development Trust have now begun this exciting project.

The initial concept included over 300 diverse new homes and the introduction of new community infrastructure as well as an improved streetscape. However, we are now handing the baton back to the people of Southmead and are making a huge effort to make sure that the community have every opportunity to voice their opinions.

The redevelopment will be the the largest community led development in the UK to date so we want Meaders and the wider Bristol community to be aware of our project so that interest and input can be generated in the ongoing regeneration of Southmead. As a not-for-profit organisation, we want the redevelopment to be a long standing source of revenue which gives back to the community for many years to come and continually improves the area for the people who live and work here.

Southmead is perfectly poised in Bristol’s northern arc to become a key area for connectivity and a place which deserves an urban fabric as rich as its community.

Southmead Regeneration Project is a community-led initiative that is working to improve the neighbourhood through the delivery of a masterplan.

The Southmead Community Plan had identified a need for an increase in more mixed housing types, to allow residents to downsize and create space for young families as well as improving community facilities and local amenities. Areas of Southmead were identified that were underused and misused that could be improved, and Glencoyne Square is one of these areas.

As a result, Southmead Development Trust (SDT) have lead a regeneration project that has captured views and ideas from hundreds of residents in the area and used them to create a masterplan for the area. Architects – Nash Partnership, Urban Planners – Streets ReImagined and the council’s City Design Group have come together to form the project team who are delivering the future of Southmead based on your ideas.

The masterplan features new homes, improved community facilities, better green space and safer streets. Find out more below!
